Am Mittwoch, den 12. Juli 2023, nahm „Wasser ist Leben“ an dem Workshop „Desertifikation in Asterousia: Konventionelle oder naturbasierte Lösungen?“ teil.

Der von der Universität Kreta und dem Naturhistorischen Museum von Kreta organisierte Workshop fand im alten Rathaus von Pyrgos (Gemeinde Archanes Asterousia) statt. Inhalte waren sowohl wissenschaftliche Vorträge über verschiedene Ansätze zur Bewältigung der Wassersituation in der Region, informative (und lebhafte) Diskussionen sowie die Möglichkeit zur Vernetzung.

Andreas Zaharioudakis von „Wasser ist Leben“ zeigt Workshop-Leiter Michalis Probonas, wo das WiL-Projekt aktiv ist, berichtet über die Arbeit und den Lösungsansatz von WiL _ und den großen Bedarf an Maßnahmen, die auf die Regenwassernutzung und die Förderung der Versickerung von Regen in die Grundwasserspeicher abzielen.
Kostas Maniadakis von WiL weist darauf hin, dass „Studien …zwar gut (sind), es existieren aber bereits viele, die deutlich zeigen, wo das Problem liegt. Wir müssen handeln!“

NewLife4Drylands will „einen Rahmen und ein Protokoll für die Ermittlung nachhaltiger Lösungen“ für Gebiete (wie das unsere) bereitstellen, die mit schwerem Wassermangel und Wüstenbildung konfrontiert sind.
