„WiL“ geht zur Schule!
Der Weltwassertag der Vereinten Nationen findet immer am 22. März statt. Im Jahr 2023 beschloss das lokale „Wasser-ist-Leben“-Team, die Botschaften unseres Projekts – und der Vereinten Nationen – Schulkindern in Antiskari und Pompia nahe zu bringen.
Unsere „Methode“: Wir bringen unsere freiwilligen Feuerwehrleute mit professionellen Feuerwehrleuten aus der Messara-Ebene zusammen – und lassen sie mit den Kindern darüber sprechen:
Wie man „feuersicher“ ist
Wie groß das Problem mit unserer Frischwasserversorgung ist (uns geht das Wasser!)
Was sie tun können, um unser Wasser – und ihre Zukunft – zu retten und zu schützen.

Die Veranstaltungen waren sehr erfolgreich. Die Kinder hörten sehr aufmerksam zu und konnten im Anschluss Fragen stellen. In Pompia hatten die Kinder auch die Möglichkeit, ein Original- Feuerwehrauto zu erkunden und sich wie „echtes Mitglied der Feuerwehr“ zu fühlen.
Vor der Veranstaltung arbeiteten die WiL-Freiwilligen Anja Mikola-Dobler (Konzept) und Voula Loukadaki (Künstlerin) gemeinsam an diesem wunderbaren Plakat. Es heißt: „Eine Zukunft mit Wasser ist eine Zukunft mit Leben“. Schau es dir genauer an!
Die Vergangenheit: Die Süßwasserversorgung aus den unterirdischen Wasseradern des Asterousia-Gebirges war reichlich und unbelastet. Die Menschen gingen sorgsam mit dem Wasser um und sorgten dafür, dass die Grundwasserspeicher mit dem vorhandenen Regenwasser aufgefüllt wurden. Es herrschte ein gutes Gleichgewicht zwischen dem verfügbaren Wasserangebot und der Nachfrage der Menschen nach Wasser.
Die Gegenwart: Heute verbrauchen (und verschwenden) wir immer mehr Wasser. Gleichzeitig haben wir größtenteils aufgehört, Regenwasser zu sammeln/aufzufangen. Zudem haben wir Bedingungen geschaffen, die es dem Regen erschweren oder unmöglich machen, im Boden zu versickern und seinen Weg in unsere Grundwasserspeicher zu finden. Angebot und Nachfrage sind völlig aus dem Gleichgewicht geraten. Unsere Grundwasserbestände sind GEFÄHRLICH NIEDRIG. So niedrig, dass die Gefahr besteht, dass salziges Meerwasser in unsere Süßwasserversorgung eindringt.
Zukunft (so oder so?): Wenn wir so weitermachen wie bisher, werden wir in diesem Gebiet eine „tote“ Zukunft haben: Salz in der Süßwasserversorgung und trockenes, unfruchtbares Land. Das nennt man Wüstenbildung. Das ist die Zukunft, auf die wir sehr schnell zusteuern. Es sei denn, wir gestalten eine andere Zukunft – die Zukunft, die wir wollen.
In ihr arbeiten alle Menschen gemeinsam daran, unsere Süßwasserversorgung – die Grundlage unseres Lebens – zu schützen und zu erhalten. Wir reduzieren unseren Wasserbedarf, „recyceln“ unser sogenanntes „graues“ Wasser und achten darauf, unser Wasser nicht zu verschmutzen (auch nicht mit unserem Plastikmüll!). Gleichzeitig füllen wir den Vorrat – die Grundwasserspeicher – wieder auf und nutzen den Regen, den wir bekommen, sinnvoll. Wir stellen das Gleichgewicht wieder her.
Die Freiwilligen planen, in kommenden Schuljahren weitere Vorträge in örtlichen Schulen zu halten. (Kontaktiert uns, wenn „eure“ Schule Interesse hat!)
